In 1956, childhood friends Al Corna, a stone mason, and Joe DiCesare, a carpenter, formed Corna & DiCesare Builders., Inc. Al was the first child in his family to be born in America and Joe immigrated to America from Italy with his family. With little resources at the time, they based their company on great character and work ethic. They started by performing concrete, masonry and carpentry work for home builders. From there they progressed from performing subcontract work to building houses themselves. Eventually, they began to construct small commercial buildings as well.
Al and Joe worked hard to maintain excellent relationships with architects, owners and subcontractors and established a reputation for always doing good work and always doing the right thing. They treated everyone with respect and always lived by the Golden Rule – they treated all people as they would like to be treated.
In 1976, Al Corna’s son Mark, who was a union trained carpenter, started The M.S. Corna Company, which specialized in concrete, masonry and carpentry work and was involved in many of the high rises and other buildings and parks built in downtown Columbus during the construction boom of the late 1970’s and early 80’s.
In 1986, Corna & DiCesare Builders and The M.S. Corna Company merged into Corna & DiCesare Construction Company. In the next ten years, revenues for the company increased from $4.5 million to $75 million.
Corna & DiCesare Construction Company became part of The Kokosing Group in 1996. This was a merger of companies with similar values – a dedication to focusing on excellence and always doing the right thing.
Today, Corna/Kokosing Construction Company is bigger and stronger than ever. We are a full-service commercial builder with more than 200 associates and annual revenues of $150 million.
